Update 09/2026: Even more accurate project planning
The September IC Project update introduces new ways to define duration and exclude non-working days from project schedules. See how you can plan projects, stages and tasks more accurately.
A good project schedule should answer not only when work starts and ends, but also how much time the team actually has to complete it.
That is why this month we are expanding planning capabilities in IC Project with two features that make schedules better aligned with the way your organization actually works.
You can now define the duration of a project, stage, board or task in days, and the system will automatically calculate the end date. You can also choose to exclude non-working days from calculations and plan based only on working days.
This month, we focused on two areas:
✔️ faster duration planning
✔️ schedules based on actual working days
See what’s new in IC Project.
🔥 Set duration in days – plan projects faster and more accurately
Until now, when planning a project or task, you could select a start date and manually define an end date.
Now you can approach planning differently.
If you know that a stage should take 10 days, a task 3 days, or a project 30 days, simply define its duration. IC Project will automatically calculate the end date based on the start date.
The feature is available for:
✔️ projects
✔️ stages
✔️ boards
✔️ tasks
🔵 Define duration instead of manually selecting an end date
When creating or editing an element, you can select “Set duration” and enter the number of days.
The system automatically calculates the end date.
This means fewer manual date selections and less schedule recalculation, especially when planning multiple project elements.
Your preferred planning method is also remembered for future forms, making it easier to work in the way that best fits your team.
You can also set the duration directly inside a task.
🔵 Plan around actual delivery time
In many projects, it is easier to estimate how much time a team needs than to immediately define a specific end date.
Instead of deciding whether a task should end on October 12 or 13, you can simply specify that it will take 5 days.
IC Project will calculate the deadline automatically.
This is especially useful during initial project planning, schedule creation and when adjusting timelines.
🔵 Combine duration with working days
The new duration option can also work together with excluding non-working days.
You can define how long a task should take, while the system calculates its end date based only on the days when your organization actually works.
The result?
Faster planning, fewer manual calculations and schedules that better reflect real delivery time.
📅 Exclude non-working days – plan when your team actually works
Not every calendar day is a working day.
Weekends, holidays and other days off should not automatically be treated as time available for project work.
That is why IC Project now allows you to exclude non-working days from planning calculations.
Once enabled, the system takes your organization's working calendar into account when calculating duration and end dates for projects, stages, boards and tasks.
🔵 Schedules aligned with your working calendar
If a project starts on Friday and a task is planned to take 3 working days, the system will not count Saturday and Sunday as working days.
The end date will be calculated based on the actual working days.
This allows schedules to better reflect reality without manually moving deadlines after every weekend or holiday.
🔵 Apply the setting globally or to selected projects
You can configure the non-working-day setting globally or apply it only to selected projects.
You can also decide whether the setting should apply to:
✔️ new projects created after activation
✔️ existing projects
Keep in mind that enabling the setting for existing projects will recalculate their schedules based on non-working days.
You can find the option under:
Settings → Projects → Project settings → Configuration → Exclude non-working days
🔵 Configure your organization's days off
For the feature to work correctly, IC Project needs to know which days your organization considers non-working.
Configure your organization's days off in the calendar and absences settings.
This can include weekends as well as other days when your team does not work.
The system can then automatically take your organization's working calendar into account when planning.
The result?
Less manual deadline adjustment, more realistic schedules and greater confidence that planned timelines reflect your team's actual availability.
🎯 Two features, one goal – more realistic project schedules
The new features work especially well together.
You can define that a task should take 5 days, choose a start date, and let IC Project automatically calculate the end date while excluding days when your team does not work.
No manual date calculations. No need to move deadlines after every weekend.
The system does it for you based on your organization's settings.
It is a simpler approach to planning, especially for projects where schedules depend on the team's actual availability.
Why does it matter?
The September update expands one of the key areas of project management — time planning.
With the new features, you can:
✔️ create schedules faster
✔️ define duration instead of manually selecting end dates
✔️ automatically calculate deadlines
✔️ account for weekends and other days off
✔️ align schedules with your team's actual working time
✔️ reduce manual schedule adjustments
As a result, planning becomes more flexible and schedules better reflect how your organization actually works.
Summary
The September IC Project update expands project and team planning capabilities.
Duration in days allows you to quickly define how long a project, stage, board or task should take, while the system automatically calculates the end date.
Excluding non-working days allows schedules to take your organization's actual working calendar into account, so timelines can be based on working days only.
Both features have one common goal: to make realistic scheduling easier and reduce manual deadline management.
